Many schools in Northern Ireland provide milk through the EU School Milk Scheme. In fact, recent statistics show that 72% of nursery, primary and special education schools make milk available for their pupils. The programme encourages children to consume dairy products as part of a balanced diet, and plays an important educational role by encouraging the adoption healthy eating patterns at an early age. Through the scheme, the European Union provides subsidies to schools, which are supplemented by funds from the UK government, so that milk and milk products can be provided to school children at a reduced cost.

At present, over 70% of all nursery, primary and special education school pupils in Northern Ireland take milk regularly through the EU School Milk Scheme.



From the farm to the fridge, the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland acts on behalf of the dairy industry, advertising and promoting the natural goodness and quality of Northern Ireland milk and dairy products.

Our primary function is to communicate factual information to allow individuals to make well informed choices about dairy products that they consume and to inform them of the benefits of including dairy products in a balanced diet. We use a wide range of media, which includes television, radio, press, magazine, posters and the internet. Our Advertising is complemented by public relations and promotional activities designed to communicate with specific groups.
