Dairy Council

World School Milk Day 2025

Andrew Muir, Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs and Ivor Broomfield, Chairman of the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland, joined pupils from Kilmaine Primary School Bangor, to celebrate World School Milk Day which takes place on Wednesday 24th September.

World School Milk Day is a celebration of the positive impact milk can have on children's health, learning, and development around the globe.

Commenting Andrew Muir said:

I am a great supporter of the School Milk Scheme.  It's great to see so many of the children here at Kilmaine primary and indeed, at schools across Northern Ireland enjoying school milk. Milk is a vital part of a child's diet, providing an excellent natural source of calcium, protein and vitamin B12.

A 189ml carton of school milk will provide 50% or more a Key Stage 1 child's calcium, iodine, phosphorus and vitamin B12 requirements and around a third of their vitamin B2, potassium and protein requirements.

Ivor Bloomfield said:

A refreshing drink of milk at breaktime can help beat thirst and provide a mighty boost to meeting children's nutrient needs. By taking part in World School Milk Day, we're joining a worldwide effort to promote healthy habits and help ensure children have the chance to thrive.
