Dairy Council NI Sports Nutrition Award - 2022

Chiara Rehman and Adam McCrindle are the worthy recipients of The Dairy Council for Northern Ireland ‘Sports Nutrition Award’.

Awarded jointly for the first time, the prize is given to the Ulster University student who receives the highest mark in their MSc in Sports and Exercise Nutrition.

Speaking about the award Chiara commented,

"Being a medical student, I was excited to build on my knowledge of nutrition and its link to exercise and performance throughout my MSc in Sports and Exercise Nutrition. I am delighted that my interest in the subject was reflected in my results and am honoured to receive the DCNI Sports Nutrition Award. I would like to give thanks to the lecturers and staff at Ulster University for making the course so engaging, in particular to my supervisor Andrea McNeilly for her unwavering support throughout! I look forward to applying the knowledge and skills this MSc programme has granted me in my future practise.”

Adam also reflected on receiving the award,

“Sport science and nutrition has always been a passion of learning for me. Following this area of interest has led me to amazing opportunities within Ulster University. Studying sports nutrition was eye opening and has given me a deep sense of the importance of food both for sport performance and for general health. I would like to thank all the staff and lecturers who have helped throughout my MSc degree, and I am incredibly proud and honoured to have received this award. For anyone reading who wishes to pursue a career within sport and exercise nutrition I would recommend studying at Ulster University as it has given me the knowledge, competence and confidence to pursue a career within Sports Nutrition”.

MSc Sports and Exercise Nutrition Course Director, Dr Andrea McNeilly, added,

“This is the first time since we established the DCNI Sports Nutrition award in 2015 that we have two joint winners, who have both achieved such high marks in their MSc programmes. It is a fantastic achievement for Chiara and Adam and recognises all of their hard work. I have no doubt that they will continue to excel as they become established Sport and Exercise Nutritionists”.

Commenting on the award Dr Mike Johnston, Dairy Council NI CEO said,

“We are delighted to be working with the School of Sport and through this award wish to encourage excellence in research and in the education of the sports and exercise nutritionists of tomorrow. I would like to congratulate both Adam and Chiara and we look forward to seeing the next batch of talented students coming through the course in 2023.”

The Award is part of the Dairy Council’s ‘Milk It’ programme which aims to communicate the importance of good nutrition for sports and a healthy, active lifestyle, including the potential role of milk.
