Dairy Council

Dairy Matrix Symposium

The European Milk Forum, together with the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland, will host a scientific symposium for nutrition and health professionals on the evening of Monday 30th October at The Hilton Hotel, Belfast.

The symposium will examine the impact of the ‘food matrix’ on the nutritional and health properties of food, and particularly dairy matrix effects. We also ask if it’s time to adopt a different approach to evaluating the health effects of food based on the whole food rather than the individual nutrients it contains?

The symposium will be chaired by Professor Barbara Livingstone from Ulster University.

Prof Ian Givens, Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health, University of Reading - The food matrix: is it time to rethink how we evaluate the health effects of food?

Dr Michelle McKinley, Centre for Public Health, Queen’s University Belfast - Muscle, bones and body fat: dairy matrix effects on body composition

Prof Arne Astrup, Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, University of Copenhagen - Metabolic health: the impact of the dairy matrix

The symposium will begin at 17:30, with light refreshments available from 16:45, and finish at 19:30.
