Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Michelle O’Neill today welcomed the appointment of Dr Mike Johnston as Chairperson on the CAFRE College Advisory Group (CAFRE CAG).

Dr Johnston was appointed, for an initial period of three years by the Department to replace outgoing chairperson Hilda Stewart from January 1, 2015. The role of the College Advisory Group is to provide advice at a strategic and operational level to the College Director and College Management Team of CAFRE. The Group was established in January 2007 and reports to the College Director, John Fay. In carrying out its work, the Group takes full account of policies and strategies approved by the Minister and DARD.

Dr Johnston is well–known and respected throughout the Agri–Food industry, including as Chief Executive of the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Director of Dairy UK.

Minister O’Neill wished him well in this important role and thanked outgoing chair Hilda Stewart for her leadership of the CAFRE CAG. She also recognised the important work that this group has done over the past number of years.
