Sports nutrition
Sports Nutrition was the focus of two recent Dairy Council events.
The 2011 Dairy Council Nutrition Lecture at the University of Ulster, Coleraine on the 9th November was given by Professor Ron Maughan from Loughborough University. Professor Maughan spoke to a large audience of academics, nutrition students and health professionals on 'New Directions in Sports Nutrition'.
Professor Maughan was also involved in a 'performance nutrition' seminar hosted by the Dairy Council at Ravenhill Rugby Grounds in Belfast the next day. The seminar presented the latest research on post-exercise recovery strategies and their practical application, including the potential role of milk.
Professor Maughan was joined by Dr Emma Stevenson, Associate Director of the Brain, Performance and Nutrition Research Centre, Northumbria University and the event was chaired by Registered Sport and Exercise Nutritionist Dr Sharon Madigan.
Health and nutrition professionals can view the presentations here. The Dairy Council is also involved with milk and sport in the 'Milk it for all it's worth' campaign which is designed to communicate the nutritional benefits of milk as part of a healthy active lifestyle to young people.
