Food and fitness programme
The Dairy Council for Northern Ireland provides a range of resources for primary schools, one of which is the 'Food and Fitness' programme for Key Stage 2 pupils.
The primary aim of the programme, which has been running since 2004, is to communicate important health messages to children in a fun, interactive and creative way. The programme has been designed to help pupils explore the concept of balance; balance within their diet, based on eating a variety of foods from the five food groups, and balance within their lifestyle, focussing on the importance of getting one hour's exercise on most days during the week. The interactive programme is delivered to pupils in a 45 minute session by DCNI staff and is complemented by a teacher resource pack and a leaflet for parents.
